Jan-1970

Formation of Guru Nanak Educational Society; Laying The foundation stone for the College by Sardar Ujjal Singh, the Governor of TamilNadu in the presence of The then Chief Minister, Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

Jan-1971

University of Madras granted affiliation for 6 sections Of PUC and 3 U.G courses in Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics.

July-1971

Formal inauguration of Guru Nanak College by the Then Governor Sri K.K. Shah, in the presence of the Then Education Minister Dr.V.R. Nedunchezhian.

July-1972

3 UG courses – (English, Zoology & B.Com) were Added. The Gurudwara was inaugurated. The Administrative Block became operational.

April-1973

Punjab Ex-Chief Minister Sardar Gurnam Singh Declared open Hostel Block and Mess Block.

Sep-1973

Punjab Chief Minister Giani Zail Singh (later President Of India) laid the foundation stone for the Auditorium (Guru Nanak Bhavan).

July-1974

NCC Air Wing was inaugurated.

July-1975

NCC Army Wing was introduced. Sind Block declared Open.

July-1978

B.A Defence Studies was introduced. PUC admission Was closed.N.S.S and Rotaract Clubs were formed.

June-1980

the Institution became a postgraduate College by Starting M.Com Course (1st PG Course). June-1981 M.A Economics (2nd PG Course) introduced.

July-1981

Establishment of Guru Nanak Evening College as a Self-Financing institution.

July-1982

B.A Corporate Secretary ship course commenced.

July-1983

B.Sc. Physics course commenced.

July-1984

B.Sc. Botany course was introduced.

July-1985

M.Phil. course in Commerce commenced.

July-1986

M.Sc. Chemistry programme commenced (3rd PG Course).

June-1990

Part time Ph.D. programme in Economics started.

Aug- 1990

A research institution named Gill Research Institute (GRI) was inaugurated by Dr.A.Gnanam, the then Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras, to conduct Research on Life Sciences.

June-1993

The Institution opened its portals to women students In UG courses also and became a full-fledged Co-educational institution, though women were Admitted in the PG courses from the inception.

July-1994

Ph.D. programme in Commerce commenced.

June-1995

New canteen building declared open.

June-2000

M.Phil. Programme in Economics and Zoology Introduced. Inception of two degree courses in B.Sc. Computer Science & B.C.A in the evening College.

Oct-2002

Job Oriented computer programmes in Tally. Certificate courses in Sales Management and Salesmanship, were introduced as self-financing Courses.

Feb-2003

IGNOU Study Centre became functional in college Campus. Aug-2003 NAAC accreditation B++ was awarded for 5 years July-2004 B.Sc. Visual communication, B.Sc. – E-media and M.Sc. Chemistry introduced in the evening College. Three Add-on-course were introduced in the Department of Commerce in Day College.

July-2005

The institution was granted ISO 9001:2000 Certification. Guru Nanak Institute of Management was Inaugurated. MBA Course commenced. B.Com (Acc. & Finance) was introduced in the Evening College.

July-2007

Gill Research Institute became an Autonomous Body. Cognizant Technology Solutions started conducting Soft-skill training for students.

April-2008

Ph.D. programme in Defence Studies commenced. MCA course introduced in the Evening College.

July-2011

The new nomenclature of  Shift-I and Shift-II were Assigned to Day College and Evening College Respectively.

May-2012

Inauguration of Guru Teg Bahadur Auditorium. Celebtation of 40th Anniversary of the College.

Jan-2013

College re-accredited at ‘A’ grade by NAAC.

April-2015

“Guru Harikrishan Block” a new state of the art academic block was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ram Sankar Katheria, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education), Govt.of India.

May-2015

UGC conferred” Autonomous “status to Guru Nanak College. June-2015   New Courses introduced in Shift-II: B.Com (Information Systems Management) B.Com (Marketing Management) B.Com (Bank Management) M.Sc. (Mathematics) M.Sc. (Zoology) One additional section each in BBA and B.Com (A&F).

June-2016

New Courses introduced in Shift-II: B.A (English) Masters of Social Work (MSW).
