Department of B.Com (Information System Management) - Shift 2


The undergraduate program in Information Systems Management (ISM) was started under University of Madras in the year 2001.It is one of the fastest growing areas of specialization which brings together three major fields of study, Computer science and technology, Business Management and Commerce, which has a strong demand in the industry. This course was started in our college in academic year 2015-16 to cater to the growing demand among the students’ community.

Department Association Activities

To chisel the students to become better personalities, citizens and leaders the department association titled “INTELL(ISM)ART”, was inaugurated on 19th September 2017. Inauguration was held in the presence of the chief guest Mr. Deepak Umapathy, Co-founder of Crossbow labs, a cyber security company, Principal, Dr. M.Selavaraj, Director, Dr. GunitaArunChandhok, Controller of Examinations, Dr. N.C. Rajashree, and  Deputy Director, Dr. P.V.Kumaraguru. Office bearers of the association were installed during this ceremony.

An Inter collegiate fiesta “INTELL FEST 2K17” was conducted on 19th September 2017. It was a blend of likeminded people who worked relentlessly without any regret. Both technical and non-technical events were conducted. Around 12 prominent institutions took part in the event. All the participants enthusiastically participated, and RKM Vivekananda emerged as overall winners while Asan Memorial College emerged asrunner up.

The Department organized an App development workshop, for an interested set of 50 students in two sessions. Ms. Ramya, Director of Aditi IT Consultancy was the resource person. The session was held on 8th August 2017 and 15th August 2017. 

The guest lecture about small and medium entrepreneurship with Self Help Groups was organised on 24th August. Ms. Chithra, a women entrepreneur was the resource person. She is an upcoming proud woman entrepreneur in our society. Their hard and smart work made them shine in various places where the big giants of the business were struggling to prove. The wordings of Ms. Chithra made the students to think about new and innovative ideas. She highlighted on various government schemes which are helpful for startupreneurs to commence business in an effective and efficient way. 

The final year students went on an“INDUSTRIAL VISIT” to Mother Teresa self-help groups at Ponneri. They showcased us the process involved in processing of millets with various machineries. It helped them to understand the optimum usage of the available place. They exhibited us various products ranging from handicrafts like bags and ornaments to packaged food products. Most of these SHGs do not have proper educational background and our department have initiated to take up the consultation and marketing services to these self- help groups as they require marketing skills which our students came to know through active interaction with those members. Honorary consultancyfor various marketing activitieshas commenced and 64 final year students are involved in this activity.

Curricular Activities 
To chisel the students to become better personalities and citizens, the department offers innovations in teaching and learning methods. As a reflection to this, every week one hour is dedicated to conduct activities. These activities are conducted by the students for their counterparts under the faculty’s guidance, which enables them to explore their abilities and strengthen up their skills. 
Some of the regular activities include:

  • Know a personality (A talk on famous personalities and their path to achievements)
  • Think tank activities like, logical reasoning and analytical reasoning puzzles
  • “Act-it-out”, “Tail-enders”, “Hang man”, “n-Code d-Code”

The department teamed up with departments of MBA and BBA and organized a National Conference on 23rd September 2016, titled – e India – Synergizing Financial Inclusion, IT and Business – Supported by NABARD.
