Department of B.Com (General) - Shift 2

History

The Department was started in the year 1981. In 1991, Co-Education system was introduced in the college for our department. The department started with 70 students as a single section as of now we are 670 students with three sections.

Objective

In order to fulfill its stated vision, mission and motto the college is committed to:

  • Academic excellence: Our primary objective is to enable every student to cope up with the latest developments in contemporary, national and global level through effective transaction of the curricular and co-curricular aspects.
  • Professional Excellence: The College motivates molds and prepares the students for positions of leadership in business organizations at the local, national and international levels. The capacity building of our graduates to assume productive roles are emphasized during their stay in the college and to inculcate the habit of lifelong learning. The ultimate objective is to produce commerce graduates who possess the skills, problem solving tools and professionalism essential for being successful.
  • Socially responsible Citizen: College inculcates a sense of civic responsibility, social commitment, and moral accountability among the students through social activities to with exposure to human rights, value system, culture, heritage, scientific temper and environment.
  • Value-based Development: To impart quality and need based education our objective is to sensitize the students to their changing roles in society through awareness raising activities.

In the academic year 2017 -18 our department students actively participated in various competition held in various colleges in Chennai and they have won many overall trophies and brought laurels to our college.

  1. Nachiappan Venkataraman and Sharun final year B.com (G) own 3rd prize in Last Man Standing conducted by Saarang 2017, IIT Madras 8th January 2017.
  2. Prerna Shukla final year B.com (G) own 2nd prize in group music conducted by Hindustan arts and Science College, January 2017.
  3. Prerna Shukla final year B.com (G) own 2nd prize cash award Rs. 3000 and consolation prize in gurusiksha conducted by Guru Nanak College, January 2017.
  4. Sharun  and team won coverall trophy in the events conducted by MCC College on 7th Feb. 2017.
  5. Nachiappan Venkataraman , Sharun and  team from  final year B.com (G)  own 3rd prize in Pot Pourri conducted by St.Thomas college, 30th August 2017.
  6. Nachiappan Venkataraman and Sharun  team from  final year B.com (G)  own1st, 2nd and  3rd prize in eventsi conducted by Ethiraj college, 1st September,  2017.
  7. Sharun  and team won coverall trophy in the events conducted by MCC, 22nd September Invictus 2017
  8. Sharun, Harish. M and Mani Kandan won 1st prize in JAM and Dual dance events conducted by Stanley Medical College, 20-23, Euphoria 2K17.
  9. Sharun  and team won 1st prize in the events conducted by SRM, 28 September Invictus 2017

Department Association Activities

International guest lecture on “Business Innovation through Advanced Information Technology” organised on 04th August 2017. Mr. PrabakaranSanthana Krishnan, Senior Director, Microsoft, United States, as the invitee lecturer, delivered the lecture of development of technology and the business opportunities.
