Department of Business Administration (M.B.A) - Shift 2

History

The MBA department was established in the year 2005 to impart quality education, research, training and consultancy in the arena of management education.  The students are groomed as total persons to encounter the tough terrains of a corporate citself as a modern day GURUKUL imparting values embellished with positive attitudes, team work, leadership and communication suitably energized to face the challenges of a technology driven work environment and at the same time contribute to the social governance. The andragogy at MBA has been tailored to bring out a “Global Nuance in Management”. There is no compromise on excellence in academics, training and quality placements.

Program Outcomes

The MBA programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and is affiliated to the University of Madras. The focus of the curriculum is to promote professional skills development and individual and leadership development that are needed to succeed in a competitive global environment. The MBA course structure includes a total of thirteen core papers, two interdisciplinary electives, six specialization papers, four soft skill courses, one summer project (end of second semester) and an extensive project in the area of specialization (fourth semester).

Dr.Shakila M.K MBA, M.Sc(Psychology), M.Phil, PhD

Dr.Shakila has a very rich experience both in academics as well as industry. She has taken up challenging assignments in industry like creating Training modules, framing HR policies and as well as training the Trainers.

In academics she has been actively involved with training teachers on classroom management, article writing, case analysis and teaching methodologies. She has been constantly in touch with corporate to identify training requirements for MBA candidates during the college as well as for the alumni.

During her career she has also organized conference both at National and international Level. She was the convener on National Conference on “e-India, synergizing Financial inclusion, IT and Business” organized by Guru Nanak College during September 2016. She also organized an FDP on Case analysis during September 2015.

She has also participated and presented papers in over 25 National and International Conferences. She has written many articles in international refereed journals.

  • Mr.Kamal Kishore, Chartered Accountant, IMS Pro School, explained the nuances of financial modelling and its application in making crucial investment decisions

 

Special Lecture

  • Mr.G.Mahalingam, Executive Director, RBI, explained the challenges in containing the inflation in emerging economies like India while achieving targeted Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He also gave a detailed account of the measures that RBI takes in terms of controlling the cost of money through instruments like Repo, CRR depending on variations in the economic conditions.

  • FDP

The MBA Department of Guru Nanak College organized a faculty development programme on Case Analysis on 19th September 2015. Dr.Jayshree Suresh, Dean, Department of Management Studies, SRM University was the resource person. The programme was organized for the faculty members of colleges in Chennai and corporate with the aim of inculcating the skill of identifying different approaches in solving a specific problem and to use case study in an effective way for teaching..Dr.Jayshree Suresh discussed in depth about the nuances of analyzing the case through an interactive session. The participant also enthusiastically participated in the programme by clarifying their doubts and sharing their thoughts in solving the case that was given to them prior to the programme. The programme brought together not only the faculty members from more than 10 colleges around Chennai city but also participants from corporate world.

  • National Conference

National Conference on “e-India, synergizing Financial Inclusion , IT and Business” supported by NABARD, Government of India was conducted on 23 September 2016.

The conference received research papers from 135 colleges across the country and 90 were selected for the conference proceedings with ISBN.

The program was inaugurated by Dr.VaidyJayaraman who is associated with University of Miami and Great lakes institute of management, India. His key note was on Business analytics and Business intelligence.

Mr.S.N.A.Jinnah, Chief General Manager, NABARD Tamilnadu and Puducherry was the Guest of honour, he highlighted on Employment opportunities in para banking sector.

Mr. Anthony Devassy, a protégé of IIM Lucknow currently Head- Information Management & Chief Data Officer of SBI General Insurance, Mumbai delivered a high voltage technical session on impact of data on organizational profitability.

Mr.V. Chelladurai, General Manager of NABARD Tamilnadu, delivered a technical session on financial inclusion and his experience with different economic strata got reflected in his session.

Mr. R.Panneerselvam, Principal Director MSME – Technology Development Centre, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, Agra (U.P) talked on Make in India. He mentioned the various support schemes from government of India to encourage entrepreneurship.

Dr.UmaChandrasekaran , Associate professor ,School of Management Studies , Pondycherry university, Dr. Vijay Durai, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies , Madurai Kamaraj University and  Dr.K.Sathyanarayan , Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies ,University Of Madras were the eminent session chairs for the paper presentations.

Prof.LaxmanGaddam , Dean, Professor and Head – Department of Commerce, Osmania University Hyderabad delivered the Valedictory address.

 

Intra collegiate Case Study Competition

The MBA department conducted an intra collegiate Case study Competition on 4 August 2017, Dr.Jayshree Suresh, Dean- Hand in Hand academy for social entrepreneurship was the judge for the event.

22 teams from various departments of Guru Nanak College participated.

1st and the 2nd prize were bagged by MBA department students, 3rd Prize was won by B.Com Bank management.

 

Intra collegiate Business plan Competition

The MBA department conducted an intra collegiate Business Plan competition. Ms.AnuradhaPrasant, Advisor –Home Décor, a practising Entrepreneur was the judge event.

23 teams from various departments of Guru nanak College Participated.

1st Prize was won by MBA students, 2nd by B.com Bank management and 3rd by B.com Marketing management.
