NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “SHAKESPEARE @ 400: THE TIMELESS BARD”, SUPPORTED BY BRITISH COUNCIL

The Department of  BA English supported by The British Council, Chennai,  organized a National level Seminar on “Shakespeare @400: The Timeless Bard”, to commemorate the 400th Death Anniversary of William Shakespeare on 30th November 2016. Padma ShriDr. Indira Parthasarathy, Writer, Play wright & Shakespeare Scholar was the Chief Guest and Ms. Nishtha Gautam, Assistant Professor, NCWEB, University of Delhi, Author, Columnist Web Producer, WION(Zee Media Pvt. Ltd.,) was the Guest of Honour. The students enacted a small portion from “Tempest” to the audience.The Inauguration was followed by two Technical Sessions. Dr. T.Sriraman, Professor, E.F.L.U, Hyderabad(Rtd.) the Resource person for Session I brief on “The Tempest and its afterlives” and Dr. Jamuna Kalyani Sridharan, Coordinator, Shakespeare Millennium Club & Chairman Philip Rajaiah Institute of Continuing Education Pvt Ltd., Chennai , the Resource person for Session II spoke on “Shakespeare the Bard-An Introduction”. There was also a Panel Discussion on “Multiculturalism in Shakespeare Plays”. Dr.K. Ganesh, Asso. Prof. & Head,  Dept. of English, MCC, Tambaram, Dr. Anita Balakrishnan, Asso. Prof. & Head, Dept. of English, Queen Mary’s College, Dr. Evangeline Manickam, Professor, Dept. of Humanities & Social Services, IIT Madras, Chennai, Ms.K. Latha, Assistant Professor Stella Maris College, Chennai were the Eminent panelists who shared their thoughts on the Bard’s works. There was also a film show on “Richard III”, by the British Council, Chennai for the students. Faculty members, research Scholars, students, Special invitees from more than 45 colleges actively participated in the National Seminar.

Poetry reading session was held on 5th December  2016,two poets Mr.Raghavendra Madhu and Ms.Suvashree Chaudhary from “Prakriti Foundation” visited our college and presented their poems.
