The Department of Hindi was established in the year 1971 and offered Hindi to the students of Pre-University and under graduate as an optional under Part II Scheme. Since then the Department has been imparting knowledge in Hindi language and literature who opted for the scheme.

Group tests, discussions and question-answer sessions are conducted regularly to assess the students’ proficiency level in Hindi. Remedial classes are arranged for students who require them. The department conducts tests and examinations periodically.

The third edition of the –Parichay,  a two week  introductory course for non-Hindi students was organized by the Department of Hindi from 26th August 2016 to 9th September 2016. Around 100 students (both shift 1 & II) received certificates on completing the course successfully. 


GuruUtsav 2017 was organised on 22nd February 2017, wherein 123 participants from 18 city colleges participated in various competitions. The Hindi Association conducted various events and Valedictory was organised on 9th March 2017. Mr. Vasudevan Shesh, Hindi Officer, Principal Accountant General A&E, was the chief guest.

National Conference on “Modern Hindi Fiction : Globalization”

The Department of Hindi organised a one day National Conference on Friday, 16th December 2016 at titled ‘Modern Hindi Fiction:Globalization’. The Keynote address for the inaugural session was delivered by the Chief Guest Prof. SurajPaliwal, Dean, School of Literature, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, Maharashtra. Professor NirmalaMourya, Registrar (Retd) , Post Graduate Research Institute, Dakshin Bharat Hindi PracharSansthan, Chennai was the Guest of Honor. Technical session were chaired by Dr. R Jayachandran, Professor & Head, Department of Hindi, Kerala University , Dr. Nazeem Begum, Deputy Registrar, Post Graduate Research Institute, Dakshin Bharat Hindi PracharSansthan, Chennai. Dr. Chitti Annapurna, Professor  & Head, Department Of Hindi, University Of Madras &Dr. C Jaya SankarBabu, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Pondicherry Central University. Professor Syed Rahamathullah, Head (Retd), University of Madras were the  guests for the Valedictory. Teaching faculty and Research Scholars from various colleges in the city and from various parts of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry attended the conference.Hindi2
