SPORTS

Guru Nanak College teams actively took part in various events organised by the University of Madras A-Zone and won the following Accolades. Teams were winners in Buck Tournament Cricket, Runners in Kho-Kho, Tabletennis, Handball, Alpha College Kabbadi.Won 3rd Place in Chess, Basketball, IIT Volleyball, 4th Place in KRMMC Kho-Kho tournament, Trichy Open Khokho tournament. Students were also selected in Handball, Football, Basketball, Kabaddi, Volley ball, Kho-Kho, Badminton teams to play in University of Madras A-Zone.

STATE LEVEL – INTER- COLLEGIATE T20 CRICKET TOURNAMENT – “PAVIT SINGH NAYAR MEMORIAL TROPHY – 3RD EDITION

The five day State level Intercollegiate T20 cricket  tournament “Pavit Singh Nayar Memorial Trophy – 3rd Edition , sponsored by Southern Motorcycles, was organised at the college cricket grounds. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Srinivasan, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, India Cements Ltd.

The Valedictory function was on 10th March 2017. Mr. Bharat Arun, Former Indian Cricketer, was the Chief Guest.Mr. Harbans Singh Anand, President, Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, General Secretary & Correspondent, Governing Council members, Mr. Jagadeesh from Hero Moto Corp, special invitees graced the occasion. 12 Men Cricket Teams and 4 Women Cricket Teams actively participated . The Winners were Loyola College and MOP Vaishnav College for Women and the runners were Guru Nanak College and JBAS College for women, for the Men and Women teams respectively. The winners received Rs. 20,000/- and the runners received Rs. 10,000/- cash awards with trophy and certificates. Best Batsmen, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, Best All rounder, Best Wicket keeper were also awarded in this tournament.

Sports Day was organised on 15th March 2017, Ms. Niranjana Nagarajan, Indian Woman Cricketer, was the Chief guest, our college teams actively took part in various events organised by the University of Madras A-zone and won many accolades too. The overall trophy for the academic year 2016 -17 was won by the students of B.Com (General).

I n Cricket, at the National Level, Aparajith, III B.Com got selected for India A team. At the State Level, the students selected for the Tamil Nadu Ranji

Cricket team are: Aparajith-III B.Com.,Indrajith-III B.Com.,(Vice Captain), Sharukh Khan-III B.Com, B.Rahul-II MA.Eco., and S.Lokeshwar, D.Anchit, S.Aravind.

Our college teams actively took part in sports events organized by Madras University A-Zone. The positions received by our students are Cricket – Winners, Kho Kho – Runners, Handball(Men)-Runners, Table Tennis- Runners, Basketball(Men)-III Place, Football(Men)-IVPlace.

In Inter-collegiate Sports Events, our college Kho kho team won the runner up position in “Buck Tournament” conducted by YMCA college of Physical Education.

Throw Ball(Men) team won the First Position in Independence Day cup conducted by SDAT Chennai.

 

  • Ramasaravanaraja of IMBA, an International Rower won two silver medals at national level
  • Aparajith and Inderajith of B.com General were elevated to national A side and vice-captain in TamilnaduRanji trophy cricket team along with Sharukh khan
  • Lokeshwar, B.Rahul, are also selected to play in Under 23 Tamil Nadu Cricket team
  • Sathyanarayana I MBA was selected to play in the University Cricket team
  • Charankumar of IIIB.com was selected to represent India for the International roller skating championship to be held in Italy
  • Iyyappan of III B.Sc. Physicswon bronze medal in the Senior National Wushuchampionship Women cricket teams from Australia, South Africa and West Indies had their practice sessions for the Women’s World Cup from 11th to 23rd March in Guru Nanak CollegeCricket ground

A year  long activities from the sports arena culminated with the Annual Sports Day celebrations on 20th February 2016, Mr. A. Chandrasekaran, Asst. Director, Directorate of Enforcement, SastriBhawan, Chennai, the chief guest  urged the students to bring laurels to the institution and also to the nation with their active participation in the sports activities.

An invigorating Inter -collegiate T20 Cricket Tournament for Men – Pavit Singh Memorial Trophy 2nd Edition, sponsored by “Southern Motorcycles” was organised on 7th March 2016 at the Guru Nanak Cricket ground. The overwhelming tournament was inaugurated by the honourable chief guest Mr. K.S. Viswanathan, Honorary Secretary of Tamil Nadu.Cricket Association in concomitant with 12 teams from leading colleges of Tamil Nadu. Valedictory was on 22nd March 2016. Famous Indian cricketer, Mr.Subramaniam Badrinath was the chief guest.

This tournament carves the spirit of sportsmanship and the importance of physical education in the annals of student’s college life.
