About the Library

Guru Nanak College Library is the nerve centre of knowledge which serves the students and staff members with a wide range of academic resources such as books, periodicals, e-resources, back volumes of journals, CDs/DVDs, Maps, Question Bank and Institutional e-Library Membership.

Our library is computerised with Library Management System and barcode technology. Our library is also secured with CCTV camera

The Library provides Online Public Access Catalogue which facilitates to browse the library holdings as well as to verify user transaction particulars.

Well-arranged stack, Open Access System and the library is run by the fully qualified library professionals.

We are also implemented the following best practices

  1. Assisting the students who prepare for various competitive examinations like UPSC, TNPSC, IPBS, SSC, UGC-NET and So on.
  2. Carrier guidance and counseling for higher studies.
  3. We also formed Alumni for the Department of Library which consists of regular library users from various subject streams.

Digital Library

We are member of UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium’s N-LIST Programme for exclusive use of about 6000 and 31 lacs e-books.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CIRCULATION

  1. Borrowing eligibility

  2. Identity Card is must for library transaction i.e issue, return and renewal of books. Identity cards are not transferrable.
  3. Faculty members can borrow 10 books with duration of 60 days, UG Students can borrow 2 books, PG Students and & Research Scholars can borrow 5 books with duration of 14 days, and non- teaching staff members can borrow 2 books with duration of 60 days.
  4. Renewals are allowed only once on the exact due date and when there are no claim by others.
  5. Students and & Research Scholars should return the borrowed books on or before the due date, failing by which a fine would be charged.
  6. Loss of borrowed book has to be reported immediately in writing to the Librarian.
  7. Reference resources will not be lent out.
  8. Books should be handled with great care, and mutilation of books in any manner will be lead to fine.
  9. Before leaving the circulation counter user should verify themselves about their transaction.
  10. A borrowed book, if recalled by the librarian has to be returned immediately.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Strict silence, decorum and discipline must be maintained in the library.
  2. Mobile phones are to be switched off or to be kept on silent mode in the library.
  3. Users should behave in a reasonable and seemly fashion in the library and must not damage library property or disturb other users.
  4. All users must follow the dress code of the college while visiting the library.
  5. Leave your bags and personal belongings at the property counters. Users are advised not to keep their valuable things in the property counter. The library accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of any articles so left.
  6. Sport ID card at all times and produce them on demand.
  7. Users must register their entry and exit in the system provided.
  8. Maintain a queue at the circulation counter.
  9. Look frequently at the library notice board.
  10. Switch off fan and lights when it is not required.
  11. Keep the library clean. Use dustbins provided in the library.

The above mentioned rules and regulations are subject to periodical reviews and revisions. Failure to comply with library rules and regulations will result disciplinary action.

Library Activities

Other than our regular library services, we conduct monthly book exhibitions, workshops, seminars and conferences.

So far, we have conducted a book exhibition in the month of October 2013 and UGC-NET preparatory programme for LIS professionals in the month of December 2013.

We will have more programmes in the upcoming months.

"NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NOOL NOOLAGAM SAMUGAM AND YOUTH RENAISSANCE DAY – 2016"

Department of Library along with Vikatan Prasuram, KalamSindhanaiPeravai, NoolagamPesugiradhu (Tamil Magazine) and SALIS organised a two day National Conference on “NoolNoolagamSamoogam” to commemorate the birth anniversary of Peoples President Dr.A.P.J.AbdulKalam on 14th and 15th October 2016.Students from 28 colleges from Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts participated in Essay, Poetry and Drawing competitions. Prize money of Rs.2000/-, Rs.1500/-, Rs.1000/- and Rs.500/- for winners with Certificates, Books were given.Four Public Librarians were awarded with “Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award” for their immense contribution in their field.

Librarians and Teachers from various institutions presented papers on the theme “Nool Noolagam Samoogam”. Eminent Film Directors, Writers, Media Persons and Speakers spoke about the importance of reading, role of libraries and librarians in shaping the society
