3rd Edition of Pavit Singh Nayar Memorial Trophy State Level Inter-collegiate T20 cricket tournament for Men and Women

The 3rd Edition of Pavit Singh Nayar Memorial Trophy State Level Inter-collegiate T20 cricket tournament for Men and Women, organised by Guru Nanak College and sponsored by Southern Motorcycles, was held between 5th and 10th March, 2017.

A Trophy for Women has been introduced in this edition of the Tournament.

The matches were held in Guru Nanak College Cricket Ground and in University of Madras Union Ground, Chetpet.

This Trophy was constituted in memory of Pavit Singh, a vibrant student of Guru Nanak College with great qualities.

Apart from the Trophy, a prize money of Rs.20,000/- for winners and Rs.10,000/- for runners separately for Men and Women was announced .

12 Men and 4 Women Teams from various colleges in Tamilnadu participated in this tournament.

 

Inauguration

The Inaugural Ceremony was held on 5th March, 2017 and the Chief Guest was Shri.N.Srinivasan, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, India Cements Ltd. He motivated the young cricketers in his inaugural address. The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Guru Nanak College for organising a Tournament of this Level and praised the lush green campus.  He also mentioned the replay of Tied Test match between India and Australia at the Guru Nanak College Ground.

The dignitaries on the dais, who graced the occasion were Sardar.Harbans Singh Anand, President; Mr.ManjitSingh Nayar, General Secretary & Correspondent, Dr.M.Selvaraj, Principal, Guru Nanak College and Officials from Hero MotoCorp Ltd. and from the Sponsor of the Tournament Southern Motorcycles.

 

Valedictory

The Valedictory was held on 10th March, 2017.

Dr.M.Selvaraj, Principal, Guru Nanak College and Member, Syndicate, University of Madras welcomed the gathering. Dr.J.Jayanthi, Member, Sports Council, Guru Nanak College, presented the Tournament Report and Dr.Suresh George, Member, Sports Council, Guru Nanak College, introduced the Chief Guest to the audience

The Chief Guest was Shri.Bharat Arun, Former Indian Cricketer.

In his speech, the Chief Guest advised the youngsters to work smarter and wished to see few of them in the Indian squad in near future.

He awarded the Trophies, Prize Money and Individual Prizes to the Winners, Runners and Promising Young Cricketers.

The success of the 3rd edition of the T20 tournament was due to the excellent organizing skills and dedicated efforts of Mr A.Jeyaganesan, Director of Physical Education, members of the Sports Council, his fellow members of Department of Physical Education of Guru Nanak College and Staff & Students of the participating institutions.
