On Sep 24, 2024 the NCC (Army wing) wing in association with 1TN BTY NCC unit conducted “Swachhata Hi Seva -2024” Cleaning activity at Velachery - Tambaram main road, under the guidance of Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, ANO, NCC (Army wing) and PI staff Shri. Tiwari.
The NCC (Army Wing) of our college organized the 3rd Edition of CADO GURU, an Intercollegiate competition for NCC cadets, from 29th February to 1st March 2024. Over 25 colleges and around 1000 NCC cadets from across Chennai actively participated in this competition. The event was inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Guest, Lt. Col. R.C. Barthwal Sena Medal, Commanding Officer of 1 [TN] BTY NCC, on February 29th, 2024. The valedictory function, held on March 1st, 2024, was honoured by the presence of our General Secretary as the Chief Guest. During the ceremony, Achievements of our cadets were acknowledged, and awards were bestowed upon the winning institutions, with KCG College emerging as the overall banner winner and TNDALU as the runner-up.
Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, Associate NCC Officer along with our cadets witnessed the Passing out parade (POP) held at OTA, Chennai on 07 March, 2024.NCC (Army wing) cadets of Guru Nanak College has participated in the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) conducted from 12 August to 21 August, 2023 at Dhanalakshmi college of Engineering. Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, Associate NCC Officer (ANO) appointed as Camp adjutant for that camp. Cadets also participated in various competitions conducted in the camp and won prizes.
NCC (Army wing) cadets of Guru Nanak College has participated in the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) conducted from 5 June to 14 June 2024 at Sri Sairam college of Engineering. Cadets also participated in various competitions conducted in the camp and won prizes. Cadets were appointed for camp appointments such a RP (Regimental Police) Havildar, Overall camp senior, assistant camp adjutant and company senior. Our Cadets also demonstrated the Gun Drill to Group Commander Lt.Col. Arindam Majumdar and was appreciated for the same.
Rank parade for our NCC cadets was conducted on May 11,2024 where cadets promoted as seniors. Lt.Dr. P. Rajan, Associate NCC Officer briefed the functions of NCC and also appreciated the work done by the ex-seniors. He also shared various roles and responsibilities of the seniors before the Rank parade. Subedar Major of 1(TN) BTY NCC SM Ganesan presented the Ranks to the cadets. He also visited the Rifle range and witnessed the high-class facilities provided for the Firers.
NCC (Army wing) demonstrated the Gun cum Fire Drill in our college campus for the students on 22 July, 2024 to highlight the importance of the 4 everlasting Howitzers of our college. Lt.Dr.P.Rajan, Associate NCC Officer (ANO) addressed the students about the Howitzer and its History of coming to our college. Principal Dr. T.K. Avvai kothai addressed our cadets and appreciated them for the demonstration.
NCC (Army wing) conducted the Selection for the first years of our college on 24 July,2024. Cadets from various departments participated enthusiastically. The selection process includes Physical test, Written and Interview. Lt. Dr. P. Rajan briefed about the NCC functions and its various activities to the students those who have volunteered to enrol in NCC.
NCC units of Guru Nanak college celebrated the Republic Day 2024. Dr. T.K. Avvai Kothai, Principal addressed the participants of Republic day celebrations. She hoisted the National Flag followed by NCC Flag in the NCC QUARTER GUARD. Various Trophies and Banners received by our NCC (Army Wing) cadets were displayed. Dr. Anitha Malisetty, Vice Principal (SFS), Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, Associate NCC Officer (ARMY WING), Flt. Lt. Dr. Ranjith Kumar Associate NCC Officer (AIR WING) graced the occasion.
The National Cadet Corps (Army Wing) organized a Live Yoga session and Seminar to celebrate 9th International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2023. Prof. S. Gnanasambandam, Managing Trustee, Shri. R. Bal Karthik, Joint Managing Trustee, Smt. N. Uma Parameswari WCSC Sky Yoga Centre, Velachery were the Resource Persons for the live yoga session and seminar. Lt. Dr. P. Rajan Associate NCC Officer addressed the cadets and highlighted the importance of Yoga and mental health. The event successfully raised awareness about the benefits of yoga and encouraged cadets to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The NCC (Army wing) of Guru Nanak College, 1TN BTY NCC organised a seminar on “Vocal for Local” to create awareness on Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan -Self Reliant India Campaign. Mr. R. Uday Basker Advocate, High Court was the chief guest. He explained about various policy decisions brought out by the Govt of India to promote Atma Nirbhar Abhiyan- Self Reliant India. Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, ANO had interaction session with all the students and NCC cadets. Our cadets namely CDT. Lakshya, CDT. Leela, CDT. Pavithra and CDT. Sabari Vishnu made a wonderful presentation on Vocal for Local campaign to create awareness among students’ community and NCC students on Atma Nirbhar Bharat - Self Reliant India.
NCC (Army wing) of Guru Nanak College in association with 1 [TN] BTY NCC organised a seminar on “The Importance of Millets” at Chennai Corporation Higher Secondary School to raise an awareness on the importance of Millets. Lt. Dr. P. Rajan, ANO had interaction session with all the students and NCC cadets to sensitise the importance of conducting this seminar and also insisted them take it forward the insights of the seminar to the public and their student’s community to have great impact of this seminar. Our cadets namely CUO.Abhishek, CDT Monish, CDT Lakshaya, CDT Pavithra also interacted with the students to create awareness among students’ community about their duties.

NCC (Army wing) of Guru Nanak College in association with 1[TN] BTY NCC organised a social awareness program at Kathipara urban square to raise awareness on Natural purifiers such as Thulasi, Aloe vera etc and the importance of Butterfly as a sensitive indicator for Environmental change. Cadets distributed saplings such as Thulasi, Aloe vera, Rio discolour etc.
NCC (Army wing) of Guru Nanak College in association with 1[TN] BTY NCC organised a social awareness program at Army public school to raise awareness about the importance for First aid for the young minds. It aims that it develops their critical thinking, problem solving, to promote safety and create a culture of care and compassion.
The NCC (Army wing) of our college organised the 10th International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2024. The event was bestowed by Chief guest Subedar Major Ganesan 1(TN)BTY NCC. Yoga trainers-A/N Charles, A/N Chandrasekar, A/N Rajarajeswari were invited from sky yoga - Vethathiri yoga centre and demonstrated various postures of asanas and explained its benefits. Lt. Dr .P. Rajan conveyed his gratitude to the Chief guest and the Yoga trainers. The event was refreshing and engaging through yoga session and insightful talks.
NCC Army wing of Guru Nanak college participated in the drug abuse awareness rally to commemorate “International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking “jointly organised by NSS and Tamil Nadu De-addiction and Psychiatric centres welfare Association. Chief guest Shri. P. Aravindan IPS, Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai Zone and Guest of Honour Shri. S. Siva, Assistant Commissioner of Police Guindy initiated the rally.
NCC (Army wing) of Guru Nanak college jointly organised the workshop on the title “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention” in association with counselling cell, anti-drug committee and NSS. Resource person for the event Mr. Avinash, Deaddiction counsellor, TTK Hospital made the event engaging through insightful presentation on drugs and its effects. Mr. Karthikeyan, Student counsellor of Guru Nanak school shared his insights on the psychological impacts of drugs.
Lt. Dr. P. Rajan addressed the students of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Velachery to our college campus to explore the various Higher education opportunities and skill development courses available in the college. He also insisted about the self-discipline and importance of Higher education. Dr. Thiagaraj, Dean (Students affairs) and Dr. P.S. Sridharan graced the event.
Guru Nanak college NCC (Army Wing) cadets participated in the Tree Plantation campaign organised by D.O.R.A.I Foundation in collaboration with Forest Department and Nestle company. In this project more than 500 tree saplings were planted in Pallikaranai. After the programme, all the participants were issued with Certificates.
On August 1, the National Service Scheme in association with the Guru Nanak Centre for Consultancy and Outreach Initiatives(GNCCOI) organised a special event titled Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (Plant one tree in Mother’s Name - தாயின் பெயரில் ஒரு மரம் நடுதல்) as part of the Tree Plantation Drive at Government High School, Kumizhi. This remarkable initiative aimed to advance environmental conservation and sustainability saw enthusiastic participation from the NSS student volunteers, the school Headmistress, school teachers and NSS Programme Officers. Together they successfully planted over 30 trees each marked with a nameplate dedicated to their mothers, in celebration of the World Nature Conservation Day, observed on July 28.
On August 12, the National Service Scheme in association with Guru Nanak Centre for Consultancy & Outreach Initiatives organised an intra-collegiate competition to commemorate the International Youth Day. The event featured Poster Making and Essay Writing (English and Tamil) competitions.
The NSS organized an Orientation Programme for our Current 2nd year NSS Volunteers on July 18. Our NSS Programme Officers Dr.P.S.Sridharan, Dr. Athilinga Senjith S and Dr. Selva Rosary Pushpa addressed the gathering and explained about Naan Mudhalvan Scheme and our Current Final year Students, those who already registered in Naan Mudhalvan scheme attended the session and shared their experience about the registration process and how to select the schools, if a registered NSS Volunteer is not able to visit the assigned school, he or she can do volunteering at nearby Govt Hr. School.
The National Service Scheme organized a Tree Plantation Camp on 26.08.2023 under "Mera Mati Mera Desh" Scheme at Government Higher secondary school, Thoraipakkam, Chennai. 25 NSS volunteers planted Tree Saplings in the School campus The pre-work for the camp was done by Mr. Dayanidhi, Mr. Ravi and Mr. Vignesh- NSS volunteers of our College.
The National Service Scheme organized an “Orientation Program for First Year Volunteers' ' on 10.10.2023. Dr.B.J. Balamurugan, NSS Program Coordinator, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai was the Chief Guest. He delivered a keynote address on the National Service Scheme and its importance to the Society.
National Service Scheme organized a MEGA Blood Donation Camp on 13-10-2023 at Guru Teg Bahadur Auditorium. This Camp was coordinated by the NSS Programme officers Dr.P.Nedumaran, Dr.S.Athilinga Senjith and Dr.A.Amala Lourthuraj. Dr.Tamilmani, Blood Bank Medical Officer, Government Royapettah, Hospital and Dr.M.Senthilkumar, State NSS officer were the Guests for the Camp. Students of Guru Nanak College donated 398 Units of Blood to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, Omandurar Government Hospital, IOG Maternity hospital Egmore, Egmore Children Hospital, Royapettah Government Hospital respectively.
The National Service Scheme organized an annual Special camp for 7 days, from 24.03.2024 to 30.03.2024 by adopting 4 villages namely Kumizhi, Mettupalayam, Ammanambakkam, and Othivakkam of Chengalpattu District. The Camp has been inaugurated by The Head Master i/c of Government High School, Kumizhi E.Jaya Kumar He spoke about the people, resources and all other things about Kumizhi village and its surroundings.
On the occasion of World Cycle Day, the National Service Scheme organized a Bicycle Rally on June 3, 2023. The bicycle rally was inaugurated by Dr. T. K. Avvai Kothai, Dean Commerce, Guru Nanak College, and it lasted for 12 kilometres from GNC Campus via Gandhi Mandapam to ended with GNC Campus. As part of the rally, the floral tribute was made for freedom fighters for the "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" commemoration. 15 Volunteers have participated in the rally.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College was conducted an Anti-Drug Awareness rally (World Record Program) on 26.06.2023 in association with J3 Guindy Police Station. Around 90 students and police officers were participated in the programme. The rally was started from GNC Campus via Phoneix Mall and Velachery 100 Feet Road and ended at GNC Campus. Street Play was performed by NSS Cultural Team about the efforts of drugs addiction.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College organized a One-day workshop on Fire safety and rescue techniques on 13.07.2023 at College premises. The Resource Person Mr.Prabakaran, Station Officer, Fire and rescue services, Velachery has accompanied with a rescue team of 5 members. He was demonstrated different types of knots among the NSS volunteers and made them to do practically. He was also explained about working of various Fire safety equipments to the volunteers including oxygen cylinder and Fire extinguisher. It was proposed by Mr.Prabhakaran, the Station Officer to form a volunteers Team of 50 numbers from the college. Around 140 volunteers were participated in the workshop.
On 31st July 2023 at Central Block Seminar Hall, the Guru Nanak College NSS was conducted the workshop on First-aid. The resource person of the workshop was Mr. Palanivel, First-aid Trainer, Indian Red Cross Society, Chennai. He was emphasized the importance of First-aid kit and first aid technique during emergency. Further he was demonstrated the first aid procedure and technique includes fire injury, suicide attempt (poison ingestion), dog bite, CPR technique, and Hanging and fracture to the NSS volunteers. Totally 58 volunteers were participated in the workshop.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College was organized a Workshop on “YOGA” on 07.08.2023 at Central Block Seminar Hall. Ms. Gayathri, Yoga Trainer, Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai was the resource person of the workshop. She was delivered her lecture on Yoga and its importance in maintaining the health and also mentioned the advantages of doing breathing exercise for the well-being of the human body. She demonstrated the few yoga techniques among the volunteers. Totally 63 Volunteers have participated in the workshop.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College has organized the valedictory function for the academic year 2022-2023 on 18.04.2022. They appreciated NSS volunteers for their remarkable services rendered to the community. They also motivated the students to become notable alumni of the college. As a token of appreciation, mementos were given to 16 final year NSS volunteers who were actively involved in conducting all the NSS activities throughout the academic year. 120 NSS volunteers from the first and second years actively participated in the event.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College organised a special camp from 24.03.2023 to 30.03.2023 at Nedungundram, Kolapakkam, Alapakkam and Santhanthapuram of Chengalpattu District. Totally 120 NSS Volunteers participated in this camp. NSS volunteers have been accompanied by Dr.P. Nedumaran, Dr.A. Amala Lourthraj and NSS programme officers during the camp. The camp was inaugurated by Ms. Vanitha Srinivasan, President of Nedungundram Panchayat. Volunteers conducted and also involved in various activities such as creating awareness on voting rights & disposal of waste, mass cleaning programme, Debate, quiz on drug and its disadvantages, gardening, seminar on Epilepsy disease, Physical training and exercise, cleaning cattle trough, cleaning the school campus and temple, create awareness on blood donation & wastage of food, rally, Gender Equality, mega medical camp and preventing violation against women.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College and Greater Chennai Police of Guindy jointly organised a Drug Awareness Programme on 05.03.2023. Dr. M. G. Ragunathan, Principal, Guru Nanak College (Autonomous), Chennai inaugurated the programme. Mr Mahendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr S. Siva, Assistant Commissioner and Inspector R. Praveen Raj were invited as a chief guest to the programme. All the three Chief Guests gave an awareness speech about the negative effects of consumption of drugs. Our NSS volunteers were also performed street play and created awareness to the public at the Phoenix Mall.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College organized a “Workshop on Disaster Management on 24-02-2023,28-02-2023 and 03-03-2023. Tamil Nadu National Disaster Response Force (TNDRF) educated our volunteers about various disaster rescue forces. 50 Volunteers participated in this workshop and made this event successful. The workshop session provided information on the Disaster Management Policies, First Aid Awareness Measures and Fire Safety Measures and Types of Fire Extinguisher.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College in association with Lions Club of Chennai Infinity organized a Workshop on “Drug Abuse and Addiction'' on 24-02-2023. Mr.S. Siva, Assistant Commissioner of Police was the Chief Guest for the workshop. Dr. P. Nedumaran, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest and the Lions Club Members shared their views on drug addiction and the negative effects of drug use. The programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers. 150 Volunteers participated in this workshop and made this event successful.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College had organized an “Exposure Visit” under Tamil Nadu Naan Mudhalvan Scheme on 27-02-2023. Dr.P. Nedumaran and Dr. A. Amala Lourtharaj, NSS Programme Officers along with the NSS Student Volunteers coordinated the programme. The students from various schools visited the college campus. They visited all the departments and gained knowledge about their future studies.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College has conducted “LEPROSY - Information Education Communication (IEC) Programme” on 13.02.2023 at Guru Ramdas Hall at 2.00 p.m. Mr. S. Suganandham, Mr. G. Balamurugan and Mr. C. Mariya Arputhasamy were the Resource persons for the programme. Dr.P. Nedumaran, NSS PO welcomed the gathering and Dr. A. Amala Lourthuraj, NSS PO introduced the Chief guest to the Volunteers. The resource person shared their perspectives on leprosy and provided our volunteers with information on leprosy. The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College observed “National Voters Day” on 25.01.2023. The pledge was taken by the Principal, Faculty members, NSS Volunteers, First year Students and Non-Teaching Staff.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College has organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Rally on 06-01-2023. The rally was inaugurated by S. Siva, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Guindy Region and Dr. T. K. Avvai Kothai, Principal i/c of Guru Nanak College by raising the flag. The rally started from Guru Nanak College and went through 100 feet Road – Throwpathy Amman Kovil Street – Gandhi Road Junction - Guru Nanak Road and again reached the College. During the rally, the NSS volunteers have raised their voices for creating awareness on the impact of using Tobacco products. 60 Volunteers participated in this rally and created door to door awareness on the impact of using drugs. Dr. S. Athilinga Senjith, Dr. A. Amala Lourdhuraj, and Dr. K. Muthupandi, NSS program officers have accompanied the volunteers throughout the rally.
The National Service Scheme of Guru Nanak College, in collaboration with HDFC Bank, organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp on November 10, 2022, at Guru Teg Bahadur Auditorium. Dr. M. G. Ragunathan, principal of Guru Nanak College, and Dr. Vaneeta Aggarwal, NSS coordinator at the University of Madras, inaugurated the camp and encouraged the students to donate blood. The NSS volunteers had done a street play to create awareness for blood donation. Students of Guru Nanak College donated blood to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital (435 units), Kilpauk Medical College (151 units), Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children (100 units), Royapettah Government Hospital (196 units), and Adyar Cancer Institute (127 units), respectively. Totally, 1009 units of blood were donated by our students during this camp.
The National Service Scheme of our College has organized an “Orientation Program for First Year Volunteers” on 28.10.2022. Dr R Ramesh, Former NSS Program Coordinator, Anna University, Chennai was the Chief Guest for the Program. The Chief Guest distributed the badges to the NSS office bearers. Our NSS volunteers performed cultural events at Assembly Square. Totally 152 first year NSS volunteers have participated in this program.

Dr. Swati Paliwal, Dean – School of Languages, IQAC Coordinator, was the resource person for the program. She motivated the students to learn Hindi and highlighted the importance of Hindi. Dr. C. Samuel Chellaiah, Regional Director, NSS and N.S. Manoranjan, Director of NYKS, along with the NYKS team, participated in the seminar and enlightened our volunteers with their thoughts on learning Hindi. They also issued Spoken Hindi books to the volunteers.

CWO VIGNESH ARAVINDH (B.sc computer science) CWO ACHALESH (B.com General shift 2) FC TARUN KUMAR (B.sc computer science) have been selected for All India Vayu Sainik Camp 2023, this is the specialised AirWing Camp to be held at JALAHALLI East Airforce station, Bengaluru.
CWO ACHALESH (B.com General Shift II) from GNC NCC AIRWING represented TN,P&AN directorate in All India Vayu sainik camp 2023 as a drill cadet, This is a national camp where 16 directorates participated from all over india and TN,P&AN bagged first position in drill competition.

On August 29, the Enviro Club organised an orientation programme to motivate new members to actively participate in its activities. It was a meaningful program that promoting environmental stewardship through an impactful initiative focused on fostering tree growth and advocating for the significance of afforestation.
Enviro club and NSS volunteers in collaboration with Hotel Westin celebrated the World Earth Day, on June 5, by planting 50 saplings around the campus. Dr.T.K.Avvai Kothai, Principal, GNC, Dr.Swati Paliwal, Dean Academics & Head, GNCCOI & Dr.Shakila M.K, Dean, School of Management planted saplings and encouraged the team.
The Water for Voiceless Programme was organized by the Enviro club of Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) on 14.08.2023, in collaboration with the Water for Voiceless NGO, organized a meaningful program that emphasized the importance of respecting animals and treating them with care. The event aimed to raise awareness about the ethical treatment of animals and encourage the college community to take steps towards their well-being. The event was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. M.G. Ragunathan, who inaugurated the initiative. The program commenced with an insightful presentation by the Water for Voiceless NGO representatives. A key initiative launched during the event was the placement of vessels filled with water across the college campus. Enviro Club volunteers were designated to ensure the proper maintenance of the water stations. This responsibility included monitoring the water levels, refilling the vessels when necessary, and ensuring that the initiative continues to be effective in meeting its objectives.
The Tree Plantation Drive was held on 11 August, 2023 was a remarkable event aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation. Mr. Soundara Raja, a renowned actor and the founder of Mannum Makkalum (For the land, for the people) NGO, graced the event with his presence and offered a powerful motivational address to students of the Enviro Club. The event took place within the college campus and witnessed the planting of 25 saplings of indigenous native tree varieties. The event successfully instilled a sense of a unity and purpose in the participants, inspiring them to continue their environmental efforts. As a result of the Tree Plantation Drive, 25 saplings of indigenous native tree species now thrive on the college campus, contributing to its green cover and ecological diversity.
On 27th July 2023, the Enviro Club organized an inspiring and informative Orientation Programme 2023 – 24 at Guru Ramdas Hall at 10.00 AM. The chief guest of the programme was Mr. T. A. Munavardeen, an experienced environmentalist from Exnora International. He shared his vast knowledge and experiences with the students. He also emphasized the significance of water resources and their conservation, management and protection. Then he talked about waste management and his successful waste management inititatives in Perungudi. This programme encouraged the student to enrol and participate actively in the Enviro club.
The Enviro Club of Guru Nanak College organized an Online Photography Contest “SNAPTICS” on 30.06.2023 for students on the theme of Colours of Nature. The contest lasted a week, and students were told to submit their entries with images via Google Form. The images were evaluated by Mr. Venkat, Professor, Department of Visual Communication, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women.
The Enviro Club organized the internship on Heritage Tree Survey in Guru Nanak College from 01.05.2023 to 31.08.2023. The Enviro Club was established in the institution in 1984 to promote an awareness of environmental responsibility and a personal commitment to conserve and preserve the environment. In light of the prevention act for better preservation, protection, and planting of trees in urban areas, it is binding on the private NGO, NIZHAL, and the Tamil Nadu Forest Department to conduct a census of Heritage trees in all lands within the authority once every five years. Plant Science, Advance Zoology, and Enviro Club volunteers performed the research in order to measure, map, and establish an inventory of tree species in the actual region, i.e. the core area of the Guru Nanak College campus. The goals of this study were to offer an assessment of the diversity, number, and distribution of tree species in the provided area. The study uses Google Earth and a mapping tool to provide a complete description of tree diversity, health state, density, distribution, and location.
The Enviro-club organized an Environmental Awareness Programme on “Sparrow Cage Awareness Programme” on 11.02.2023 at 10.30 AM in Assembly square. The sparrow (Passer domesticus) cage awareness initiative was started to raise awareness about the sparrows' increasing endangerment in the areas where they are commonly inhabited.The sparrows' living conditions have changed as a result of the society's changing way of life, and their population has steadily decreased. To keep the sparrow population alive, it is necessary to maintain the interdependent ecosystem's key components. The need to educate the student communities about the requirements of an interdependent ecosystem has become crucial. This programme represents a modest effort to achieve its objectives. The initiative was launched by the Principal, Dr M G Ragunathan by giving out sparrow cages to be fixed to the trees on our campus in order to create the proper habitation environment for the sparrows to nest and reproduce.
The Awareness Programme about Eco-friendly Jute Bags was organized by the Enviro club of Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) on 10.02.203 at G S Gill Hall at 11.30am. This awareness campaign aims to increase consumer awareness of the different jute products available as plastic alternatives. Welcome address was delivered by the principal, followed by the Resource person Mr. Ayyappan highlighted the importance and uses of Jute products. The Programme was attended by 179 participants.
The Enviro Club has arranged a field visit to Sree Venkatakrishanan Ghosamrakshna Sala on 20.02.2023. The aim of the programme is to create awareness and promote various indigenous Cow Species of India. Mrs. Preetha Manikandan explained about the different breeds of cows in Goshala. This program had a positive impact on 50 students.
The Enviro Club of Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) organised a yoga awareness programme for "Youth Day" on January 10, 2023.The Resource Person, Mr. Ramesh, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit, emphasised the significance of yoga and the advantages of yogasana. The event was attended by 12 faculty members and 51 students.
On the occasion of World Earth Day on December 5, 2022, Enviro Club held an awareness programme called "Movement to Save Soil." Dr. M.G. Ragunathan, principal of Guru Nanak College, addressed the students by saying that "soil fertility is decreasing day by day." Sadhguru launched the Man Kaappom movement, urging the implementation of laws and policies on soil conservation. For this, he embarked on a treacherous motorcycle journey across 27 countries in 100 days, beginning on March 21, and raised awareness around the world. As a result, 74 countries, 11 Indian states, and 9 UN organisations supported the initiative. Also, so far, 391 million people have voiced their support for this initiative.
Hundreds of students participated in the event and created awareness among the public by carrying awareness banners and distributing pamphlets. Enviro Club volunteers were actively involved in the "Man Kappom" movement and distributed "Man Kappom" stickers to all the students, pasted the stickers on the bikes, cycles, and cars on the Guru Nanak College campus, and explained about the purpose of this movement.

The Enviro Club and the Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology programme is maintaining a beautiful Herbal garden in the heart of our Guru Nanak College campus, which is a living museum of more than 60 different varieties of medicinal plants including rare and endangered medicinal plant species. The herbal garden lies with the descriptive labels with their botanical names, vernacular names displayed for the different sections and plants. The herbal garden is helpful for the students in knowing taxonomic knowledge and identification of the local plants. In addition, it promotes relaxation and also maintains a healthy mind in the surrounding environment. The diverse collection of plant species facilitate visitors to experience new plants and enables opportunities for learning. The herbal garden provides valuable information on various plants and act as outer laboratory for students and scientific researchers

As per the instructions of the Tamilnadu Food Corporation of India, the Citizen Consumer Club conducted a poster making competition on Awareness on Blanket Ban To Manja Thread on October 4. More than 30 students participated and portrayed the cause and effect of using the Manja thread.
Seminar on “Know your rights as a Consumer” was organized by the Citizen Consumer Club on August 28, 2024. Ms. S. Saroja, Executive Director of Citizen and Civic Action Group, Chennai , the Resource Person spoke about the six important Consumers rights and also highlighted real-life examples of how consumers are exploited in the field of real estate, medical and business.
The Citizen Consumer Club inaugurated and conducted Seminar on “Consumer Awareness on Food Adulteration” on July 30. Mr R Venkataraman, President, North Tamil Nadu and Mr. R. Selvaganapthy, Life Skill Coach and Students Coordinator from Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat (NGO) of Citizen Consumer Club were the Resource persons. Overseas Education Awareness Program - an Overseas Education Opportunities session was conducted to all the final year students. The session was aimed at for those who want to pursue higher education abroad. The Session was handled by Mr.Kamal Kant, Vice president, Azent Overseas Education Ltd. The event was held on 16.7.21 between 11am to 12 pm virtually.
Adore India Training - the Placement Soft skills Training was conducted for the final year Life Science Students. The Program was primitively aimed at the upcoming placement drives for them. Exploring New Horizons
Counselling is a process which aims to help student's personal well-being and to develop a healthy mind and body with the support and guidance by trained counsellors. To help resolve emotional and psychological issues experienced by the students, a Counselling Cell, headed by a qualified, experienced and trained Counsellor has been provided, for the college and school students of Guru Nanak College and school.
The Counsellor helps the students understand their concerns by encouraging them to confide in her by listening and responding to the student, while maintaining confidentiality. The counsellor helps diagnose the student issues like academic stress, depression, anxiety, social acceptance and loneliness.
Individual and Group counselling is carried out to help students who needs help in setting academic goals, social and personality development, career goals, enhancing listening skills, empathy and interpersonal skills. The students are encouraged to speak out and understand personal, emotional, social, family, peer, academic and gender issues and help them resolve their issues with expert assistance and counselling.
The counsellor is available for both school and college students (shift 1 & shift 2) from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm inside the college premises. As per the requirements of the students the time is allotted for the counselling sessions. In the case of any emergency the students can also avail of tele-counselling, for which the contact number of the Counsellor is publicized.
The Counselling cell in association with Student Council and the programme of Master of Social Work organised a seminar on Risks and Protective factors for preventing suicidal behavior among Gen Z to commemorate the World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. The event had two sessions led by Dr T Prabhakara, Cosultant Psychiatrist and Advisor, Magilchi program and Centre for Police well-being and Mrs Kavitha Dhanaraj, Clinical Psychologist and Asst Professor, Department of Applied Psychology, Justice Basheer Ahamed Sayeed Womens College.
Orientation programme on Career Prospects organised on July 5 for the final year students, with almost 250 students participants. Dr Neela Ganguly, Head-Department of Political Science and Career Counsellor, Guru Nanak College, the resource person, emphasised on the importance of career guidance when students transition from adolescence to adulthood, a stage filled with aspirations and potential.
Dr T Prabhakar, Senior Psychiatrist consultant and Legal Advisor, Magilchi program, spoke on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse among the youth who belong to Gen-Z. He highlighted the importance of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) , its different steps in prevention of drug dependence and the psychological techniques Cognitive Behavior Technique used in prevention of drug dependence. Around 30 students participated and gained knowledge on various impacts and the adverse effects of addiction.
The Counselling cell in collaboration with Dr Lakshmi Vijaykumar, Psychiatrist and Senior consultant of World Health Organisation (WHO)and Founder Trustee of Sneha suicide prevention centre that runs a helpline for those in distress organised a walkathon.The Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Dr. J Radhakrishnan I.A.S was the chief guest and Actor Siddhart flagged off the 3 kilometre Walkaton on the theme “ Creating Hope through Action “ . The walkathon was held at Olcott Memorial School in Besant Nagar where hundreds of volunteers participated from various schools and colleges.

The Counselling cell headed by Dr Nafisa jeddy counsellor in association with Team Student affairs and Team NSS organized the celebration of international day of happiness on March 20 at our College as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. A workshop on the title “Happy minds, happy people “was organized for the students with the resource person being the Counsellor. She highlighted the importance of a positive attitude and that the students should prioritize happiness and a value worksheet was provided so as to recognise their core values. She explained that happiness cannot be outsourced and should come from within ourselves. The celebrations included a signature campaign, a white board to express what makes them happy, written on sticky notes and a photo booth for selfies to be taken. These were placed at the assembly square. Overall 146 students participated in the workshop and celebration.

Counselling cell organized an Orientation program on Counselling and Mental health challenges under the aegis of IQAC for the Freshers on 31st July 2023. This event emphasised the counsellor's introduction and presence at the college, as well as her roles and responsibilities. Students were informed about the mental health issues affecting today's youth, such as depression, anxiety, suicide, and addiction. The orientation programme helped the students understand the mental health issues that adolescence experiences in this generation.

The International Day of Happiness was celebrated by the Counselling Cell in association with Student Affairs held on 20th March 2023. To commemorate the international day of happiness which was established in 2012 by the United Nations General assembly as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. The event was inaugurated by the Counsellor Dr. Nafisa Jeddy, followed by her talk and a dance performance by the G Unit Girls Team. The students and staff members participated in the signature campaign and took photos in the selfie booth.

The theme of the competition was “Protecting Rights of Women and Gender based Violence in Digital Spaces”. The women teaching staff, non-teaching staff and the students participated in the poster making competition. The Prize distribution was held at the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh auditorium on 8th of March 2023.

Counselling Cell conducted a Workshop on the topic “Stress Management through Art Based Therapy '' on the 27th of January 2023 at Guru Nanak College. The resource person was Mrs. Kavitha Dhanaraj, Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor from Justice Basheer Ahamed Sayeed College. The resource person gave a great overview of art-based therapy and emphasised how it can improve mental health by reducing stress and regulating emotions in healthy ways. Special participant Mrs. Harleen Kaur, Managing Director, also attended the workshop. Using engaging group exercises like finger painting and projective techniques, the programme was incredibly educational.

Counselling Cell in association with PG Programme of Social Work (MSW) conducted a Seminar on the topic “Mental Health and Well-being – Global Priority” on 10th of October 2022 at Guru Nanak College to commemorate the “World Mental Health Day” which was established in 2013 by the World Health Organization. Dr Vinayak Vijaykumar MD Psychiatrist, was the chief guest for the seminar. He shared his insights on depression, prevention of suicide and addictions. He laid the message to the students with examples and clarity.

Sports and games are an integral part of Guru Nanak College's total educational programme. The college encourage sports by providing State of art facilities and intensive coaching/training by experts. Talented students are given admission through sports merit. The department provides the students physical fitness through conditioning camps and games skills through training programmes. Counselling is extended to all the sportspersons to balance sports with studies. Outdoor games are organised at the National level and indoor games organised at the International Level provides adequate exposure. The college encourages the deserving students with sports scholarships.
Department of Physical education provides an invaluable opportunity for our students to interact, keep fit, pursue excellence and work in teams. The sports facilities are extensive and well-equipped, catering to a wide range of sports in indoor and outdoor.

Sadagopan Ramesh, Subramaniam Badrinath and Vijay Shankar has represented the Indian Cricket team. The recent finds Sharukh Khan, Subramaniam Badrinath, Vijay Shankar, K.B. Arun Karthik, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan and G. Vignesh were in the limelight of the recent Indian Premier League. More than 50 cricketers played in the State Ranji team.
Master Abhay Singh is yet another gem of Guru Nanak College representing the Indian Squash Team, winning the British U-23 Open Crown Championship in the year 2020 for the first time ever by an Indian.
The lush green turf wicket of Guru Nanak College maintained by India Cements hosted the "Rematch of India - Australia tied test". The sports pavilion has a modern gym of international standard. The prestigious Chancellor's trophy was organised at Guru Nanak College. Pavit Singh Nayar Memorial All India Invitation Cricket tournament for Men and women is an annual mega Pan India event.
The college has three more outfields for Hockey, Football, Handball and Kho-Kho. The spacious indoor Tej Bahadur auditorium has organised many international events in Chess and intercollegiate student / staff tournaments in Table tennis and Shuttle Badminton.
The Department of Physical Education is ably supported by the Sports Council comprising the faculty members of the institution.
The council headed by the Principal has 12 members and a Convener. The council has women representatives to address the issues pertaining to sportswomen. The members are selected from different disciplines from both shifts who are interested in sports. The council ensures smooth functioning of the Department of Physical Education. The committee ensures fair sports merit selection, monitoring their attendance and assist the Department of Physical Education in organizing events throughout the year. The sport committee members extend counseling to the sports students to balance both studies and sports.

PDF FILECMA Rakesh Sai, Management Controller Amalgamation Valeo Clutch Pvt Ltd., the resource person, addressed 70 students on Goal setting as an important part of personal growth and development. By setting and working towards goals, students can measure their progress, stay motivated and inspired, and build self-confidence. He also stated that personal development and goal setting are essential pillars on the journey to self-improvement and achieving success. Further, he elucidated the importance of setting SMART goals. Goals must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) in order to be effective. In addition, he suggested a few ways/tips to nurture a growth mindset. Further, few activities and exercises were conducted, it helped students develop a goal-setting mindset and achieve their objectives in various aspects of their lives.
